Meeting Wynton Marsalis

For students from every department, it was a huge moment—being able to listen to Wynton Marsalis' insights and watch him perform with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra up close. The performance was nothing short of mesmerizing, and the conversation with Marsalis provided valuable insights into the art of jazz. 

Jazz trumpet student Immanuel Kaljouw was chosen by the organization to ask the artists a question, representing KCB. His question, “What should a young musician in this generation work on and what should we focus on?” made us reflect on the current and future of music and how we can help our art to develop with the new times.

 The experience was not only a profound learning opportunity but also a chance to see firsthand the genius behind his artistry. The entire event created a space where students felt connected to both Marsalis and his incredible orchestra, forming an even stronger sense of community within KCB.

Looking back, it’s clear that this event was more than just a performance—it was a landmark experience that will stay with us for a long time. It’s moments like these that remind us of the unique opportunities KCB provides, bringing students closer to the world’s greatest artists and creating memories that will inspire them throughout their careers.
