VIETMUS Musichathon: A Hands-On Laboratory on Digital Tools and Remote Music Performance
The VIETMUS Musichathon, an innovative laboratory event, took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from the 25th to the 30th of March 2025, hosted by the National University of Art Education (NUAE). This event explored the practical application of digital tools in remote music performance and online training, bringing together representatives from six Vietnamese universities and four European institutions.
KCB (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel) was represented by its international projects coordinator, Nuno Cernadas, who contributed to the workshops and hands-on sessions with Vietnamese students and professors.
Overview of the Musichathon Programme
For six days, the Musichathon Lab sessions covered key topics, including automation in digital workflows, online music education platforms, low-latency remote collaboration, artificial intelligence in music production, and advanced sound sampling techniques. Led by specialists from European partner institutions, these sessions demonstrated practical applications in live performance, studio settings, and interactive installations.

• Automation task programming with Chataigne – Nuno Cernadas (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel)
• Creating an online platform and distance training activities with MOODLE – Payam Susanni & Yasin Ozarslan (Yaşar University)
• Developing a low-latency platform for online music sessions – Michelangelo Galeati (Conservatorio di Musica di Roma)
• AI in music production and recording – Giuseppe Vasapolli & Fabio Crescente (Conservatorio di Musica di Palermo)
• Interactive workshop on sound and sampling – Giuseppe Vasapolli & Fabio Crescente (Conservatorio di Musica di Palermo)
• Sampling and sound synthesis with electric bass and other instruments – Giuseppe Vasapolli & Fabio Crescente (Conservatorio di Musica di Palermo)

Music Start Cup: Creativity in Action
A highlight of the event was the Music Start Cup, a platform where students presented and developed creative ideas for distance music performance and cyber collaboration. This initiative encouraged participants to experiment with new approaches, showcasing their potential to shape the future of digital music education and performance.

With many thanks to
Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission within the framework of the VIETMUS project (VIETnam Music Universities Spurring, 2023–2025), the event not only strengthened international partnerships between Vietnamese and European institutions but also laid the groundwork for future innovations in digital music learning and collaboration.
