SONICO | Workshop Tango

There is a huge lack of stylistic knowledge when it comes to the interpretation of Astor Piazzolla's music and tango in general, which often results in weak and unsubstantiated performances. One of the most common pitfalls underlying this flawed performance practice is the fact that tango scores are merely a starting point for interpretation and should not be considered the ultimate end goal of a performance in a function of Urtext. This can be compared, for example, to the text of a theatre play. Therefore, it is important to approach this genre critically and get rid of this tendency by fostering students' interest (both classical and jazz) in tango performance practice.

With this two-day workshop, the Brussels ensemble SONICO want to teach our students the "ins and outs" of this style of music in order to give them more opportunities in their professional future.
