Garth Knox

Garth Knox is at the forefront of the new music scene in many areas. Drawing on his vast experience as violist of the Arditti Quartet and the Ensemble intercontemporain and his close collaboration with most of today's leading composers, he has become a unique interpreter of music in many different styles, ranging from minimalist understatement to the vanguard of new techniques and new technologies.

More recently, thanks to his interest in the viola d'amore and the medieval violin, his repertoire has opened up to music of the past (medieval, baroque) that he brings convincingly into the present, and his Irish/Scottish roots enable him to dialogue with traditional Celtic music without complexes. He has always felt at home as an improviser, and now increasingly as a composer, deploying his musical ideas as innovative instrumental theatre.
