Too often Boccherini disappears into the background when we talk about classical music. However, the oeuvre of this eccentric Italian cellist is enormous. His music is brimming with originality, expressiveness and professional skill.
Each of his compositions consists of an exciting paradise for strings because of the intrinsic technical and musical challenge. This program honours him as a musical counterpart of Mozart and Haydn, in which we (re-)discover him as an expert of the classical orchestra and the human voice, as a key figure between baroque and classical.
