António Augusto Aguiar | double bass
He started his double bass studies with his brother Adriano Aguiar and later with Jean-Marc Faucher at the Conservatory of Music of Porto.


After graduating from ESMAE in the class of Florian Pertzborn, he graduated in 2000, with Distinction, in Master of Performance at the Royal Academy of Music - London with Duncan Mctier.
He was awarded the "Special Foundation Award" and obtained the "Licenciate - Double Bass teacher" diploma.
He won the "Manlio & Selma Di Veroli Double Bass Prize" contest (1999).
Soloist of the contemporary music group Remix Ensemble since its foundation in 2000, he has recorded more than a dozen CDs dedicated to contemporary music.


Since 1992 he has been active in jazz and during five years doublebass player of the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra. Special note to his participation in the CD's "A Lenda" by Carlos Azevedo, "Encomenda" by the Quintet of Mário Santos, "Narsad Suite" by Luis Lapa, "Ad Libitum" for solo bass, "Raku" by Hugo Danin Trio, "Tu no Dances "by Rui Teixeira," Cloud "from the quartet A4 by Mário Santos and" Stereo "with the Ploo by Paulo Costa.
His work "Pandora" was performed by the Remix Ensemble at the Casa da Musica (Porto), in Azores, Clairemont Ferrain (France) and the Huddersfield Festival (England), which can be heard on his "Contratemporâneo" CD dedicated to contemporary music for solo double bass, where he also performs works by Jorge Peixinho and Rebecca Saunders.
António Augusto Aguiar concluded his PhD in Music at the University of Aveiro (2012) with the theme: "Shape and Memory in Improvisation".
He is president of the School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto (ESMAE).
