Bart Bouckaert, conductor
Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 4
Michael Tippett, Concerto for double string orchestra
The Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel has the honor to welcome conductor Sir Roger Norrington to the KCB for a grandiose program.
With his fourth symphony, Mahler continues his eternal search for the meaning of life. In contrast to his third, the fourth symphony offers a lighthearted, humorous answer with the song ‘Das himmlische Leben’, in the Finale, referring to angles, paradise, and heaven. And yet the theme of this work is dark, referring to death. Michael Tippet’s 1st orchestral work is a joyful concerto for double string orchestra,
with Handel and van Beethoven peeking around the corner.
