Christina Fassbender & Gregor Hollmann

In between a university project and a performance practice seminar, in 2014, the idea arose to work together – initially only for a concert. This was coupled with scepticism as to whether the modern flute and historically tuned harpsichord would harmonise.

In the first rehearsals, it became clear that this combination really worked and thus marked the beginning of a joint musical path ! At the same time, we agreed very quickly that we did not want to devote ourselves to the « standard » repertoire, the wonderful sonatas by Bach, Handel and Telemann. Rather, we were interested in the less well-known compositions for flute. Thus, on our first CD, we presented the first recording of a suite for flute and basso continuo by Thomas Marc, among other works. Now we can present the result of our further work, whilst commuting between Berlin and Münster – our second recording, « Zeitenfluss  1774-1804 ».

With this recording, we have once again let ourselves be guided by the search of the unknown – always deriving pleasure from musical and (during breaks) culinary diversions. We feel that our work together is a great gift and encourages further exciting projects.

The recital programme can be found here.

Prof. Christina Fassbender has been teaching at the Universität der Künste in Berlin since 2017, following posts in Münster and Würzburg. Before her teaching career, she was principal flautist in the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin from 1999 to 2012, and made guest appearances in orchestras just as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Bavarian State Orchestra and many others. She regularly gives master classes, participates in festivals, and serves on juries in Germany and abroad. For several years, she has been intensively exploring the topic of breath, movement and interpretation in an instrumental context.

Prof. Gregor Hollman can reflect on a long teaching career at the Musikakademie Kassel, the Musikhochschule Münster and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. With a stylistically extensive repertoire – from the time of the Reformation to Beethoven’s early keyboard quartets – he has given concerts in numerous European countries as well as in the USA. His musical work is documented on releases of the labels ambitus, cpo, MDG, Stradivarius Milan as well as in recordings of the radio stations SWR, WDR, BR, Radio Bremen, DLF and Radio Nacional de Espana.
