The Sonate pour piano by Jean Barraqué (1928-1973) in a new critical edition by Bärenreiter.
"As the dust slowly settles over the second half of the 20th century, the music of Jean Barraqué comes ever more clearly into view as one of the time's great monuments". This is how at the end of the twentieth century (July 1999) Paul Griffiths presented in The New York Times the release of two further interpretations of Barraqué's Sonate pour piano, of 1950-1952, performed by the Taiwanese pianist Pi-hsien (Telos) and the German Herbert Henck (ECM).
After the recent publication of the critical edition of the monumental sonata by the German publisher Bärenreiter (Kassel, 2019), the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel promotes on the 21st of October 2021 an event dedicated to the figure and work of the French composer Jean Barraqué.
The presentation of the two volumes of the critical edition will feature international guests such as Heribert Henrich of the Akademie der Künste of Berlin, editor of the critical edition, and Laurent Feneyrou, musicologist of the Association Jean Barraqué and researcher of IRCAM Institute in Paris. Giacomo Danese, professor of the CLDA Conservatoire of Pescara and guest professor of the KCB, will intervene as moderator.
A live performance of the newly edited score of Barraqué's Sonata will follow the presentation, interpreted by the refined Belgian pianist Jan Michiels, piano professor at KCB.
