A debate with cultural actors regarding the position and future of higher music education in Brussels

Kamiel D’Hooghe, born on November 17, 1929, celebrates his 90th birthday. He was the first director of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. Since its foundation in 1832, the conservatory has had a fascinating history, both artistically and pedagogically. The most striking and radical change in the course of the last century was the division in 1966 of the unitary Conservatory into two autonomous Conservatories, one French-speaking Conservatoire and one Dutchspeaking Conservatory. On 1 August 1967, Kamiel D’Hooghe became the first director of the Conservatory. His vision continues to feed the conservatory.

In honour of his birthday, we organise a debate with cultural actors regarding the position and future of higher music education in Brussels. Afterwards, a reception will be held and the evening will end with a concert. The KCB symphony orchestra, in collaboration with the Strasbourg Conservatoire, will present, in honour of Kamiel D'Hooghe, piano concerto No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Suite Romeo and Juliette by Sergei Prokofiev.

You are most welcome on this remarkable day.

Those taking part in the debate will be announced shortly.

Due to circumstances, the debate on Saturday the 23rd of November will not take place. A new date will be announced.

The study of art is an appropriate and high quality area to allow humankind to express its deepest sensations. This is often suppressed in our intellectualistic life pattern. That is why art in society is even more a life requirement for a dignified human existence than the economy.
