Gábor Tarkövi & Stefan Schulz

Trumpet player Gábor Tarkövi received his very first trumpet lessons from his father, István Tarkövi, at the age of nine. Raised in Csolnok, absorbing the local “Schwab” brass music substantially influenced his musical career. After graduating at the Richter János Conservatory in Győr, Gábor became a student of György Geiger at the Liszt Ferenc Teacher Training College. Gábor continued his studies under Frigyes Varasdy at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. Between 2004 – 2019 he was principal trumpet player of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Since 2018 Gábor Tarkövi is Professor for Trumpet at the Berlin University of the Arts. Yet the trumpeter performs regularly in Europe, the USA and Asia, as a renowned soloist worldwide, presenting concerts with major orchestras as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Bavarian Radio Chamber Orchestra, China National Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra.

Trombone player Stefan Schulz studied in Berlin and Chicago. His abiding interest in education has marked his musical career: first as a mentor with the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin, and as a lecturer at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. Schulz has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Hamburg Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony etc. He is a dedicated chamber musician and is a permanent member – as was  his colleague Gábor Tarkövi three years ago – of the Brass Ensemble of the Berliner Philharmoniker and regular guest with the ensemble German Brass. Together with the trombonists Joseph Alessi, Michel Bequet and Jorgen van Rijen, he founded the World Trombone Quartet.
