( born in 1965 in Bruges, Belgium )

Starts playing the double bass at the age of 14, he will be classical trained at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Gent by Frank Coppieters, and got introduced to the world of jazz by the great John CLAYTON during the summercamps organised by the Halewijnstichting in the early 80's.

Since 1993, he teaches at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
He was also been a regular faculty member at the Taipei International Summer Jazz Academy (Taipei Taiwan).

As a member of the “BRT Jazz Orkest”, he accompanies a number of soloists, like Horace PARLAN, Jerome RICHARDSON, Kenny WHEELER, Palle MIKKELBORG, Von FREEMAN, Mal WALDRON,…

Some important belgian bands he played with : the SADI Quartet, Jacques PELZER’s “Open Sky Unit”, and outside the jazz scene with artists like VAYA CON DIOS, ADAMO, Lais, Jasper STEVERLINCK, Roland,…

For many years, he will play with French pianoplayer/composer Jean-Marie MACHADO, joining his project «Sextet Andaloucia ». Another bandmember, saxophonist Andy SHEPPARD proposes to form a trio with drummer Dré PALLEMAERTS, and In 2010, he will do a one-time tour of 13 concerts for JazzLab Series with his own trio.

Freelancer, he performs with : Barney WILEN, Michel LEGRAND, Lew TABACKIN, Lee KONITZ, Gary SMULYAN, Dick OATS, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Eddie DANIELS, Judy NIEMACK, and many others.

Since 1997 he becomes regular band member of the Toots Thielemans Quartet, and performs with Toots in Belgium, Europe, South America and Asia during 17 years.

With the renowned drummer Peter ERSKINE, he formed the rhythm section for the « Frank DERUYTTER Quartet ». Two CD’s have been recorded.

In 2018, he joined the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
