Piergiorgio Pirro, pianist, performs and composes in the domains of jazz, Brazilian and electronic music.
He studied classical piano and composition at the Conservatory of Music “U. Giordano” in Foggia (Italy) and at the Conservatory of Music “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, then got a Professional Diploma in Jazz Piano at School of Music “G. Bonamici” of Pisa. He attended several jazz workshops, and studied with Kenny Werner, Phil Markowitz, Stefano Battaglia, Paolo Birro, John Taylor, Franco D'Andrea, Danilo Rea, Mark Turner, Stefano Zenni, Achille Succi, Piero Leveratto, Omer Avital, Ettore Fioravanti, Antonio Sanchez, Kevin Hays, Aaron Goldberg. He was awarded the Siena Jazz Scholarship in 2008.
He recorded as co-leader the album Monome (Konnex Records, 2012), with drummer Gianpaolo Camplese, bass player Matteo Anelli and saxophonist Peter Ehwald. He founded in 2013 the band More Sundays together with Elisabetta Maulo, Tony Cattano and Beppe Scardino. The debut album of the band, named “Early”, was released in 2015 by the label Improvvisatore Involontario. In 2015 he arranged and played the piano in Federico Bertelli’s LP “Living” (Jandomusic) that saw the participation of Nicola Stilo on the flute. He had a long collaboration with the Jazz Wide festival in Pisa (now Pisa Jazz). This collaboration led to the birth of a large impro/jazz ensemble, Wide Orchestra, of which Pirro has been musical director from 2013 until 2015.
In 2016 he did a 3 months residency at JZ Club Hangzhou (China) with Nicola Lancerotti and The Brussels Quintet, and toured in Changzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. Another 3 months residency in the same club followed in 2018.
In 2018 he obtained a Master Degree in Jazz Piano magna cum laude from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and was awarded the prize of the Horlait-Dapsens Foundation for the Arts.
He currently resides in Brussels, Belgium and is a PhD student in jazz music and Assistant Researcher at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
