Luis Mora Matus is a drummer / composer born in Santiago de Chile in 1987. At the age of 18 he moved to São Paulo (Brazil) where he studied at the Souza Lima / Berklee Conservatory. For four years Luis studied the traditional and contemporary music scenes of both South American music and jazz music.
With the ambition to broaden his knowledge, he moved to the Netherlands in 2009 where he obtained his Bachelors and Masters at the conservatory in Rotterdam (Codarts) in the Jazz department. He graduated in 2014. Since then he has been very active both in the Netherlands and abroad, where he regularly performs in Poland, Germany and Cyprus. He is mainly active with his own band, Quantum Trio, a contemporary jazz band that draws its influences from metal, classical and electronic music. They have three studio albums to their name and have mostly toured in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. In 2015 Quantrum Trio won "Debut Album of the year" awarded by Polish Jazz Portal and in 2018 they won the Hitch On Music / Jazz Juniors Competition in Krakow, Poland, one of the most traditional competitions in Poland.
Luis is currently following a PhD program at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Belgium. The aim of his research is to expand the expressive possibilities of drummers in the rhythmically complex context of contemporary jazz, through the assimilation of foot techniques developed by progressive metal drummers.
